The Keiskamma Trust is a community organization, centred in Hamburg, a rural area of the Eastern Cape, South Africa, which works to foster hope and offer support for the most vulnerable. The Keiskamma Health Program
Providing the only AIDS/HIV treatment in this area of South Africa it currently has nearly 200 people on Anti-retroviral drugs. Our Aids Treatment centre in Hamburg provides full time in-patient care for those that need it. In addition over 40 adherence monitors are employed by the Trust to ensure that out-patients are able to stick to their medication. This is notoriously the difficult part of the healing process and these monitors make the difference between success and failure.Learn More
The Keiskamma Art Project
This community initiative provides many people from Hamburg and neighbouring villages with the skills, materials and training to create beautiful artworks. In so doing, people grow respect for themselves and generate vital incomes in an area of limited employment opportunities. The Keiskamma Art Project’s most famous artworks to date are the Keiskamma Altarpiece and the Keiskamma Tapestry. Both large artworks carry the message of hope in the fight against HIV/AIDS to audiences around the world.Learn More
Keiskamma Education and Development
A number of efforts are focused on growing an environment in which children can develop and learn. Expert educators travel from around the country and from overseas to Hamburg to enrich and develop its resources. Teachers at the local schools are consistently supported through the ongoing work of the Trust. The Trust manages four creches in the area, and is growing its number of after-school centres where children receive a filling meal, loving care and help with their homework. These centres are equipped as resource centres, with extensive libraries of books children may read and borrow. In conjunction with the Keiskamma Health Programme, there are regular educational workshops about HIV/AIDS for children of all ages. Further to this, the established Music Academy and Capoeira Dance Group, as well as projects around Heritage and the conservation of the environment, offer children rich learning experiences that help to grow their self-esteem and understanding of the world around them.Learn More

Good News for the Keiskamma Trust
We were very grateful to have received a very special and very substantial donation this month thanks to the generosity of White Cube Gallery in London, UK and world famous Artist Damien Hirst. (www.whitecube.com/artists/hirst/)
In July this year Mr Hirst and owner of White Cube, Jay Jopling and director of the gallery Daniela Gareh, agreed to donate the proceeds of the sale of one of Damien Hirst’s paintings to benefit the work of the Keiskamma Trust’s HIV/AIDS treatment programme.
We feel absolutely privileged and excited to have an artist as prestigious as Damien Hirst support the work of the Keiskamma Trust by the donation of an artwork.
Murray & Roberts Installation
The Keiskamma Art Project has installed a set of 52 large-scale tapestries at Murray & Roberts in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, to become the first piece of their Art Collection. They won an award at the Business and Art
South Africa (BASA) 2009 competition for their successful collaboration.
