The main aim of this initiative is to create environments that nurture the multifold needs of growing children. Young children need a safe, clean place to learn in. They need to be eating nutritious food. They need quality educators to grow their capacity for learning.
The Trust supports the day-care facilities in and around Hamburg on an on-going basis, offering training for teachers and carers, providing educational resources and running food programmes that ensure children receive a healthy meal. The Trust has renovated old buildings and, where necessary, built new ones. It currently operates four creches in the area: - Masivuye - meaning “let us rejoice” is in Hamburg
- Mxolisi Sojola - named after a political activist who was born and raised in Hamburg is also in Hamburg
- Sopakama - meaning “we will rise” is in the neighbouring village of Bodiam
- Ntilini Creche - in Ntilini, a small village between Hamburg and Bodiam.
There is a need to further develop the resources of the existing centres and to build new ones. Qualified teachers are a rare and precious resource, as is money to pay for buildings in need of renovation, the upgrading of equipment and further training of ill-equipped educators. The Tust has worked with a number of extraordinary people who have come to share their knowledge and their skills to help develop the rural education system which, as it stands, is devastatingly ill-equipped to accommodate the needs of South African children If you feel there is a way, however small, in which you can make a contribution in this challenging area, please contact us at:
